About the SAM Registry

  • SAM Registry is a South African non-profit organization in partnership with the South African Surgical and Medical Societies. Our mission is to establish a comprehensive registry that revolutionizes the way patient-reported outcomes are tracked and analysed across South Africa. We are committed to driving surgical excellence by providing a cost effective and accessible platform for surgeons and clinicians to monitor and improve patient outcomes.

In today's healthcare landscape, the importance of data-driven decision-making cannot be overstated. By harnessing the power of information, SAM Registry aims to enhance surgical practices, identify areas for improvement, and ultimately elevate the quality of care delivered to patients in both the public and private healthcare settings. Our registry serves as a centralized hub where surgeons can record, analyse, and benchmark patient-reported outcomes. Clinicians can contribute to a collective understanding of surgical and medical interventions, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

As a non-profit organization, SAM Registry is dedicated to supporting the surgical and medical community.  Through the financial support of societies, companies and organisations, we aim to offer our platform free of charge to end user clinicians. We believe surgeons should have the opportunity to leverage the benefits of a comprehensive registry without financial constraints. By removing barriers to access, we empower surgeons from all practice settings to contribute to the advancement of surgical and medical care in South Africa.

SAM Registry offers a user-friendly and secure online platform. Clinicians can effortlessly track and monitor patient-reported outcomes. From post-operative complications to recovery times, comorbidities to medication, patient satisfaction to quality-of-life measures, our registry captures valuable data points that allow clinicians to gain insights into their own practice patterns and compare their outcomes with national benchmarks. This information facilitates evidence-based decision-making, enhances surgical techniques, guides billing practices, and ultimately improves patient care.

Collaboration lies at the heart of SAM Registry. By partnering with the esteemed South African Surgical and Medical Societies, we bring together a diverse community of surgeons, physicians, university researchers, dietitians, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals – all dedicated to advancing patient outcomes. Through these partnerships, we foster knowledge sharing, promote research collaborations, and drive the adoption of best practices across the clinical landscape.

At SAM Registry, our ultimate goal is to improve patient outcomes and enhance the overall quality of care in South Africa. By participating in our registry, you can contribute to a growing body of knowledge that enables us to identify trends, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and advocate for evidence-based practices. Together, we can shape the future of surgery in our nation and ensure that patients receive the highest standard of care.

We invite all surgeons in South Africa to join SAM Registry and be part of this transformative initiative. Together, let's harness the power of data, foster collaboration, and elevate surgical excellence across our great nation. Welcome to SAM Registry – where tracking patient-reported outcomes leads to better surgical care for all.
